One
of the most important necessities in any society is safety and security of
people and property; it is this basic need that led to the introduction of the
police. The first police was introduced by Robert
Peel in 1829 in London, with 17 divisions, each with 4 inspectors and 144
constables. The aim was to instill law and order in London.
Today the police is not the right of a single country
but a need to all society. The Nigerian police was introduced in 1861 to also
bring order to every society. But today we see that the police force is a direct
opposite of it original calling.
A middle aged man was on Thursday
allegedly shot dead by a policeman in Iperu, Remo North local
government area of Ogun State, South West Nigeria while two others sustained
bullet wounds. It was said that the bus driver (now deceased)
allegedly brushed a police patrol van along the Sagamu/Benin express way.
